FORMER MINISTER CAUGHT WHILE FLEEING THE COUNTRY
Another person has been detained in Ukraine as part of the fight against corruption. Reports in the Ukrainian press indicate that former Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko was detained by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) on a train he boarded to leave the country.
ACCUSED OF CORRUPTION
NABU stated, "Today, NABU detectives detained the former energy minister while crossing the state border in connection with the Midas case," emphasizing that preliminary investigation procedures are ongoing and that the investigation is being conducted in accordance with laws and court decisions.
NABU announced last year on November 10 that it had launched a special operation to uncover corruption in the energy sector, revealing that corruption had occurred in strategic enterprises in the public sector. Halushchenko was removed from office last year after his name was mentioned in the revealed corruption, and his successor Svitlana Hrynchuk also resigned after her name was mentioned in the same corruption case.
