The U.S. Southern Command announced that the operation was carried out under Operation Southern Spear, upon the order of SOUTHCOM Commander General Francis L. Donovan. The statement indicated that three individuals on the boat, which was determined to be traveling along a drug trafficking route, were killed, and no U.S. personnel were harmed.

In a statement by the US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), it was stated that the joint task force acted under the orders of SOUTHCOM Commander General Francis L. Donovan as part of Operation Southern Spear.
The statement indicated that the targeted boat was confirmed by intelligence to be traveling on known drug trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and involved in drug activities.
“3 NARCO-TERRORISTS KILLED”
In the SOUTHCOM statement, it was said, “During this operation, 3 male narco-terrorists were killed, and no US personnel were harmed.” While no further details about the operation were shared, it was stated that operations against drug trafficking in the region would continue.
