US to Israel: Withdraw gradually from Lebanon

15.06.2026 21:10

The peace agreement reached between the US and Iran was met with anger in Israel. While Iran demanded that the end of Israel's occupation of Lebanon be included in the agreement's terms, it was claimed that Netanyahu challenged Trump on this issue. It was also alleged that the US asked Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to gradually withdraw from Lebanon.

The US has reportedly requested that Netanyahu gradually withdraw from Lebanon.

US CALLS ON ISRAEL FOR 'LEBANON' PLEA

The US and Iran have reached a historic peace agreement. However, the Tehran administration's demand for Israel to end its occupation in Lebanon has brought the US and Israel into confrontation. It has been alleged that the US, in line with this demand, asked Israel to gradually withdraw from Lebanon.

'ISRAELI ARMY WILL NOT WITHDRAW'

In a report by Yedioth Ahronot, citing unnamed Israeli officials, details of a phone call between Netanyahu and Trump regarding the US-Iran agreement were disclosed. The report stated that Netanyahu informed Trump that the Israeli army would not withdraw from the areas it has occupied in Lebanon and would continue its attacks.

Israeli officials speaking to the newspaper indicated that if the Washington administration demands Israel's withdrawal from Lebanon or a limitation of its attacks following the agreement with Iran, Israel may have to face US pressure.

CABINET SUPPORTS NETANYAHU

Meanwhile, it was reported that during yesterday's Israeli security cabinet meeting, the majority of ministers fully supported Netanyahu's stance on Lebanon.

KATZ: WE WILL NOT WITHDRAW FROM OCCUPIED AREAS

Additionally, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced that despite the agreement between Washington and Tehran, the Israeli army will remain indefinitely in the areas it has occupied in southern Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza.

According to a written statement from the Israeli Defense Ministry, Katz claimed that the areas occupied by Israel in southern Lebanon would be "cleared" of the local population.

Katz stated that despite the agreement between Washington and Tehran, the Israeli army will continue to stay indefinitely in the occupied areas in southern Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, and made the following remarks:

"Therefore, despite all current and future pressures, we oppose the withdrawal of the Israeli army from Lebanon."

Katz alleged that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has clearly communicated this situation to US President Donald Trump and other senior US officials, claiming, "I also conveyed this clearly to US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth yesterday."

'WE WILL NOT COMPROMISE'

Katz stated that Israel will not compromise on its security interests and will not withdraw from the occupied areas, adding:

"If Iran attacks Israel due to events in Lebanon, we will attack it with all our might and make it feel the power difference very well. We are only responsible for our citizens and the security of Israel."

Israel's far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir also reacted harshly to the agreement reached between Washington and Tehran, saying, "Trump's agreement does not bind us. Israel is not a colony (subject) of the US."

THE AGREEMENT STATED MILITARY OPERATIONS WOULD END

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the US and Iran had reached an agreement, stating, "It declared the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon."

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed that an agreement had been reached with the US, announcing that the memorandum of understanding would be signed in Switzerland on June 19.
