Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany strongly criticized the referee decisions after the PSG match, saying, 'Such decisions should not determine the match.'
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany harshly criticized the referee decisions after the match against PSG. The Belgian coach argued that the fate of the match was shaped by controversial incidents.
“WE DID GOOD THINGS”
Speaking to TNT Sports, Kompany stated he disagreed with comments that Bayern Munich played poorly, saying, “One of PSG’s strongest aspects is pressing and their attacking players making runs into space. But we did good things when we had the ball and didn’t allow them to execute that plan.”
“PSG DEFENDED REALLY WELL”
Kompany said his team created important opportunities, adding, “We got into many dangerous positions, but at the moments when we wanted to cross or make the final pass, PSG defended very well. It took us a long time to find the goal. Of course, we also need to talk about the referee decisions.”
“THERE ARE DECISIONS WE ARE NOT HAPPY ABOUT”
Emphasizing respect for PSG, the Bayern Munich head coach stated, “If we had won this match, people would have talked about PSG not being able to play their game. But there are some decisions we are not happy about.”
PENALTY AND RED CARD REACTION
Providing detailed assessments of the officiating, Kompany particularly reacted to handball positions and red card decisions. Saying he disagreed with the view that Konrad Laimer handled the ball, Kompany stated, “I didn’t see a clear image showing that.”
The experienced coach also touched on penalty incidents in the first half, saying, “In one incident, the ball hits the player’s body first and then his hand, and a penalty is given. In another, Joao Neves’ hand is in the air, but since the ball came from a teammate, no penalty is awarded. This situation requires some common sense because what happened is really absurd.”
“HE DIDN’T WANT TO GIVE THE SECOND YELLOW”
Also commenting on the incident where Nuno Mendes was expected to receive a second yellow card, Kompany said he thought the referee did not want to send the player off.
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE MESSAGE
Speaking about Champions League goals, Kompany said, “I always feel we can win this trophy. But I also know how difficult it is. Maybe it didn’t happen this year, but next year the details could be in our favor.”
