Virus Cases, Deaths Climb In Eurasia, Central Asia

Coronavirus cases and fatalities continued to rise in Eurasian and Central Asian countries on Saturday.

Moldova

Moldova reported 380 more COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 25,113.

At least 10 fatalities were recorded over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 788, while recoveries in the country stand at 17,571.

Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan reported 279 more virus cases, taking its total to 32,157, including 454 deaths and 26,474 recoveries.

A total of 5,229 patients are still receiving medical treatment in the country, which has conducted over 732,000 tests so far.

Uzbekistan

At least 256 more infections raised Uzbekistan's overall count to 24,569, as the death toll increased by one to reach 144.

A total of 452 recoveries over the past 24 hours raised the total to 14,916.

According to the Health Ministry, 9,508 patients remain under treatment, while around 95,000 more are under medical surveillance.

Belarus

The COVID-19 case count in Belarus increased by 138 people to reach 67,946, as four more fatalities took the death toll to 563.

A total of 21,686 patients have recovered in the country so far.

Tajikistan

Tajikistan reported 42 more cases over the past 24 hours, raising the overall count to 7,451, including 60 deaths.

A total of 6,233 patients have recovered so far, while 1,158 remain under treatment.

Worldwide

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed over 680,500 lives in at least 188 countries and regions since last December.

Nearly 17.64 million cases have been reported worldwide, with the US, Brazil, India, and Russia currently the hardest-hit countries, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University.

The data shows more than half of all patients – over 10.36 million – have recovered so far. -
