ARAGHCHI: IRAN HAS ALREADY OBTAINED SIGNIFICANT GAINS
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the negotiations with the United States in Switzerland have provided important economic benefits to Iran.
According to Reuters, Araghchi stated that within the framework of the diplomatic process, sanctions exemptions for oil and petrochemical exports have been obtained, the blockade against Iran has been lifted, some frozen assets have been released, and a comprehensive reconstruction and development plan has been initiated for the country.
Araghchi's remarks came after approximately 18 hours of talks in Switzerland, mediated by Qatar and Pakistan. The mediating countries announced that "encouraging progress" had been made in the negotiations and that a roadmap had been created to reach a final agreement within 60 days.
"THE FIRST REAL TEST WILL BE LEBANON"
Araghchi praised the mediation efforts of Pakistan and Qatar in a post on the social media platform X.
The Iranian minister noted that thanks to the initiatives of these two countries, significant progress has been made in ending the war in Lebanon and implementing the agreement reached between Iran and the United States.
Citing the exemptions for oil and petrochemical exports, the release of some frozen assets, and the implementation of the development plan, Araghchi said, "The first real test will be the conflict prevention cell in Lebanon."
A JOINT MECHANISM TO BE ESTABLISHED FOR LEBANON
The mechanism Araghchi referred to was included in the joint statement issued by Qatar and Pakistan following the talks in Switzerland.
Accordingly, the United States and Iran will establish a "conflict prevention cell" to prevent the resumption of military operations in Lebanon. The Lebanese government will also be involved in the process, while Qatar and Pakistan will serve as facilitators.
The joint statement stated that the mechanism to be established aims to ensure compliance with the cessation of military activities in Lebanon under the agreement signed between Iran and the United States.
