67-year-old Rahmi Karademir, who started communicating in Danish after suffering a blood clot in his brain in Konya, has begun to remember the Turkish he had forgotten. Kandemir expressed that he sometimes struggles to recall words, saying, "May God not give such a thing to anyone. The first sentence I formed was 'I love you very much' addressed to my wife."
After living in Denmark for 20 years, Rahmi Karademir, who settled in Konya 10 years ago, suffered a stroke following knee surgery last month.
With an intervention in the emergency room, one of the large blocked vessels on the left side of his brain was opened by Prof. Dr. Gökhan Özdemir through angiography.
After the surgery, Karademir, who forgot how to speak Turkish and began communicating in Danish with those around him, is still undergoing treatment.
HE REMEMBERED TURKISH AGAIN
Karademir, whose complaints have largely improved, started speaking the Turkish he had forgotten about 15-20 days after the angiography procedure. His progress in speaking Turkish has made those around him, especially his wife, very happy.
Karademir, who goes to the hospital for check-ups at regular intervals, wants to return to his old days with the support of his wife.
After his examination at Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine Hospital, tests were conducted by specialists.
"HE CAN NOW SPEAK TURKISH"
Prof. Dr. Gökhan Özdemir, a faculty member of the Neurology Department at Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine, stated that Karademir's health is improving day by day.
Özdemir explained that the patient's forgetting Turkish and speaking Danish is quite remarkable, saying, "Uncle Rahmi can now speak Turkish. He is experiencing some problems with comprehension and understanding. There is no sign of paralysis in his neurological examination. He can follow commands and perform tasks independently.
He can manage his eating, drinking, and self-care. This is a good situation for us. We were expecting him to speak, and he started speaking within a few weeks. His current condition, speech, and comprehension will improve. We expect this recovery process to be much faster, especially in the first 6 months." he said.
Özdemir also noted that Karademir can speak Danish, stating, "In patients who cannot speak at all, sometimes improvement can occur within a few days, sometimes a few weeks, and sometimes even a few months."
HE TOLD HIS WIFE "I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH"
Rahmi Karademir expressed his excitement about starting to speak Turkish again, saying:
Thank God, I can speak now. I struggle a bit, and I can't remember some words immediately. I was in very bad shape after leaving intensive care; I couldn't speak Turkish. I don't know where I pulled Danish from or how I did it.
I stayed in Denmark for a long time. I was sad when I couldn't speak Turkish. Doctors and professors come to me, ask me things, and I can't say anything.
Friends and family come, and I can't talk; I don't know what I did, what I'm doing... May God not give such a thing to anyone. The first sentence I formed was to my wife, 'I love you very much.'
