"WE MUST NOT BREAK AWAY FROM THE SOIL"
Chatting with the farmer he met at the Fairgrounds, Ali Babacan, after asking the university graduate's age, said, "Come, let me kiss you on the forehead. A 24-year-old farmer, look, he must be kissed on the forehead."
Asking the young farmer what he planted, Ali Babacan later said, "Mashallah, how beautiful! Because agriculture is very important. We must not break away from the soil. Young people are moving away from the land."
"HALF OF THE COST SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE STATE"
Encountering the complaints of farmers and producers at the Agriculture Fair, DEVA Party leader Ali Babacan argued that Turkey lacks an agricultural policy. Emphasizing that the money given to interest is 16 times that given to farmers, Babacan said that taxes, insurance, and bank debts should be restructured over 3 years with a 1-year grace period. Babacan also demanded that half of the farmer's fertilizer, fuel, and feed costs be covered by the state.
