While the Middle East teeters on the brink of an all-out war, US President Donald Trump's threats have landed like a bombshell on the peace negotiations being held in Switzerland. With the entire world watching the diplomatic talks in Geneva, Trump threatened to militarily wipe Iran off the map if the Strait of Hormuz, the heart of global oil trade, is closed. The US President told Iranian officials, "If you close Hormuz, you won't have a country left."

While critical peace negotiations between the US and Iran continue in Switzerland, US President Donald Trump issued very harsh statements that are set to escalate tensions in the Middle East. Speaking to Fox News, Trump openly threatened the Iranian negotiation team, signaling military intervention if the Strait of Hormuz is closed.

"YOU CAN'T EVEN RETURN TO YOUR DAMN COUNTRY"

While sharing details of his meeting with Iranian officials, Trump used language that strained diplomatic norms. Highlighting the critical importance of the Strait of Hormuz for global oil trade, Trump stated:

"If they close the Strait of Hormuz, we will destroy Iran. I told Iranian officials clearly: 'If you close Hormuz, you won't have a country left.' In fact, you can't even return to your damn country. The US can take 20% of the oil in Hormuz; if necessary, we will take full control of the strait."

STANDOFF WITH PEZESHKIAN

Referring to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's statements that "We will never give up our right to nuclear enrichment," Trump escalated his threats. Responding to Pezeshkian, the US President said, "He better watch his mouth. He needs to be careful, or we'll take over the rest of the country too."

60-DAY ULTIMATUM

Speaking about the ongoing negotiations with Iran and a potential deal, Trump noted that he has a critical timeframe. Revealing his cards regarding the process, Trump issued a warning with these words:

"As a result of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with these Iranians yesterday, 19 million barrels of crude oil exited the Persian Gulf. I have a 60-day option before me regarding the Iran deal. Once that option expires, I can do whatever I want."

While a diplomatic solution is sought at the peace table in Switzerland, there is great curiosity about what move Iran will make following Trump's direct and harsh military threats, and how regional energy markets will react to this tension.
