The Constitutional Court ruled that the Justice and Democracy Party is considered to have dissolved automatically due to its failure to fulfill the necessary legal obligations, thereby terminating its legal existence. With this decision, it was also ruled that all assets of the party be transferred to the Treasury.
The increase in the number of political parties in Turkey is noteworthy. According to the records of the Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the number of active political parties, which was 168 in January 2025, rose to 188 as of January 2026.
A PARTY'S ACTIVITIES HAVE ENDED
On the other hand, the Constitutional Court ruled that the legal existence of the Justice and Democracy Party has ended. According to the decision published in the Official Gazette, it was decided that the party is considered to have dissolved automatically.
DID NOT FULFILL THE CONDITIONS
The decision stated that the party did not hold its grand congress within the legal period after its establishment and did not form its mandatory organs. Upon the application of the Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the examination concluded that, in accordance with the provisions of the Political Parties Law No. 2820 and the Turkish Civil Code, the party's activities have ended. It was also decided that all assets of the party be transferred to the treasury.
