WHAT IS WHITE PHOSPHORUS?

White phosphorus is defined as a chemical substance that is launched with artillery shells, bombs, and rockets and ignites when exposed to oxygen. The chemical reaction creates an intense heat of 815 degrees and produces light and dense smoke. This substance, which emits a garlic-like odor, is not considered a chemical weapon because it burns with heat and flame rather than poisoning. However, white phosphorus is still banned under the "1980 Convention on Conventional Weapons."

According to Human Rights Watch (HRW), white phosphorus causes severe burns that typically penetrate to the bone, heal slowly, and have a high likelihood of infection. Burns from white phosphorus, which occur in only 10% of the human body, are often fatal. Survivors of their initial injuries typically suffer lifelong pain.

ISRAEL'S ATTACKS ON LEBANON

In a statement made by the Israeli army on March 2, it was noted that sirens were activated in the north of the country after detecting missile fire from Lebanon. The Israeli army, which announced that it had launched airstrikes across Lebanon and targeted the capital Beirut, had decided to expand its ground occupation in Lebanon, where it carried out intense attacks from the air and sea. Lebanon's Health Minister Reken Nasreddin stated that the death toll from the attacks carried out by Israel on Lebanon since March 2 had increased by 100 to 394, while the number of injured had risen to 1,130.
