The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, explained the new period applications for natural gas and electricity bills during a television program he attended. Minister Bayraktar also answered the question that the public is most curious about: 'Will there be a price increase for natural gas?' "HOW WILL THE NEW MODEL OF BILLING BE?"
Minister Bayraktar made the following statement: A consumer who has reached a certain level is considered a high-income consumer. Let's assume they have many electrical devices in their home. Let's say 400-500 kilowatts. It is important to correctly define the support groups here. This is included in our OVP program. We want to implement it by looking at the consumption in 2024. There are approximately 36 million subscribers in Turkey. We think that a 3% slice could be a high consumption group. We will tell them, 'the cost of electricity is this, please pay this cost.' We are working on it. We plan to implement it in 2025. There is a concept called price elasticity of consumption or demand for this consumption group. This is related to your income level, comfort, and expectations. Honestly, I can say that it is appropriate for such a consumption group to bear these costs, and it will relieve the support groups more comfortably. There may be unforeseen things here. In rural areas, perhaps 3 families share 1 meter, a father and 2 sons living in the same place. As a result, their consumption may exceed that figure. Since these are sensitive processes, we need to work meticulously. It would be more appropriate to share with the public after the work is completed. We are trying to avoid mistakes by taking exceptions into account. Essentially, we aim to transition the groups that can bear the costs to cost-based pricing. WILL THERE BE A PRICE INCREASE FOR NATURAL GAS?One of the primary areas we are working on in this process is also combating inflation. We are working with the impact of energy prices on inflation in mind. We want to carry this process without price increases as much as possible to accelerate the decline of inflation.
