Sources from the Ministry of National Defense responded to questions regarding claims that "Turkey will establish a base in Syria" by stating, "In line with the requests of the new Syrian government, a joint roadmap will be created to enhance the capacity of the Syrian army, and concrete steps will be taken."
The Press and Public Relations Advisor of the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry Spokesperson Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk spoke at the weekly press briefing held in Kars.
ALLEGATIONS THAT "TURKEY WILL ESTABLISH BASES IN SYRIA"
After the meeting, ministry sources responded to journalists' questions regarding the allegations that "Turkey will establish two new military bases in Syria," stating: "As Turkey, our priority is to maintain the territorial integrity of Syria, to ensure stability in Syria, and to prevent the activities of terrorist elements, especially the PYD/YPG, in northern Syria. We support the new Syrian government's efforts to establish stability and normalization across all of Syria. We have expressed our readiness to provide all kinds of support to them in matters falling within the scope of our ministry's functions.
“IT IS TOO EARLY TO DISCUSS SUCH MATTERS RIGHT NOW”
In this context, the first contact meeting was held last week through a delegation assigned by our ministry. Both sides agree on the territorial integrity of Syria, its stability, and the need to eliminate the terrorist threat. It is necessary to approach such news in the press with caution and to read and understand its content well. It is too early to discuss such matters right now. A joint roadmap will be created to develop the capacity of the Syrian army in line with the demands of the new Syrian government, and concrete steps will be taken towards this goal."
