Rams Başakşehir player Miguel Crespo stated that the goal he scored against Galatasaray while wearing the Fenerbahçe jersey was very important and that he is proud of it, while also saying that his joy was misunderstood. Crespo said, "People did not understand that goal celebration. The joy I expressed was not against the Galatasaray fans. Of course, I had scored a very important goal at that moment, but it was a joy related to myself. My goal was very important, and I am proud of it."
Experienced midfielder of Başakşehir, Miguel Crespo, shared his thoughts on the Süper Lig and his time at Fenerbahçe in an interview with İhlas News Agency (IHA).
'A LOT OF QUALITY PLAYERS HAVE COME'
Crespo, who has reached 98 matches in the Süper Lig and has 2 matches left to reach the milestone, stated, "If I reach 100 matches in the Süper Lig, it means I am on the right track. I would like to play more, even more than that. In the last 2 years, the Süper Lig has developed a lot, many quality players have come. We must be prepared for everything," he expressed.
'COMING TO FENERBAHÇE WAS A BIG STEP'
Crespo emphasized that he only spoke with Head Coach Victor Pereira during his transfer process to Turkey and that coming to Fenerbahçe was a significant step for his career, saying, "There are many players from Portugal. Not only Portuguese but also many players coming from the Portuguese league. Before coming here, I talked about how it is here, how football is. I did not speak with any player before coming to Turkey, I only spoke with Victor Pereira. He asked me if I was ready to come here and play. I said 'of course' to him. Because coming to Fenerbahçe was a big step for me. I told him that I would be ready for this. Of course, when I met Portuguese players later; we always had conversations with Sergio Oliveira from Galatasaray, Joao Mario from Beşiktaş. We talked about our teams, our training, and compared our teams. Other than that, we did not have very special conversations," he said.
'I THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE LITTLE SPACE DURING MOURINHO'S TIME'
The successful player conveyed that he thought he would not get much playing time with the arrival of Head Coach Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahçe, which led him to make the decision to leave, stating, "I can say that I learned something from all of them. I worked with coaches who had different thoughts and ideas. It was good for me to take the good thoughts. I did not have any problems with anyone in terms of my relationships. I have always been a player who does my job 100%. I did not have any issues with any of them, they were all good people. I spent the entire summer camp with Coach Jose Mourinho. Of course, I talked to him. I thought I would not have much space because many players would be coming to the team. I had to make a decision regarding that. There were options from Spain. Then Başakşehir showed interest. Since my family and I love living in Istanbul, we made this decision," he said.
'I DECIDED TO GO TO SPAIN DURING A VERY GOOD MEMORY'
Referring to his time at La Liga representative Rayo Vallecano, where he played on loan for half a season, the Portuguese player stated, "My time in Spain was a very good experience for me. In fact, I made the decision to go to Spain during a very good memory at Fenerbahçe. Regarding this, my life is not just football. I sometimes need to think about my private life as well. At that time, my wife was pregnant. Spain and Portugal are neighboring countries. We made such a decision. Of course, La Liga was a very good experience. Great stadiums, great teams. It was also a wonderful experience in terms of seeing technical and tactical differences. I really enjoyed it," he explained.
'MY GOAL AGAINST GALATASARAY WAS VERY IMPORTANT'
Speaking about the joy he experienced after scoring the winning goal against Galatasaray in the last minutes during the 13th week of the Trendyol Süper Lig in the 2021-2022 season, the 29-year-old player said, "To be honest, people did not understand that goal celebration. The celebration I made was not a celebration against the Galatasaray fans. Of course, I scored a very important goal at that moment, but it was a celebration related to myself. It was a very important goal for my team and for myself to take a new step. The meaning was also related to the fact that I did not listen to outside criticisms too much. Whether good or bad things were said about me, it was about the fact that I did not listen to them too much and always focused on myself. My goal was very important, and I am proud of it," he said.
'I HOPE ARDA GÜLER ACHIEVES EVEN MORE'
Finally, Crespo shared his thoughts about Arda Güler, the national player who currently plays for Real Madrid and with whom he played at Fenerbahçe, saying, "I am very happy for him. I hope he can achieve even more," he said.
