Johnstone Burgh, one of Scotland's regional league teams, has faced a situation rarely encountered in the football world. The Scottish side will start two different cup matches on Saturday, November 21, only 30 minutes apart. After no changes were made to the fixture schedule, the club decided to field different squads in both matches.
Scotland representative Johnstone Burgh will compete in two separate competitions on Saturday, 21 November. According to the club's statement, Johnstone Burgh will face Tayport in the Scotland Communities Cup at 17:30 Turkey time (14:30 local time).
Just 30 minutes after the first match starts, at 18:00 Turkey time (15:00 local time), they will take on Dunipace in the Lowland League Cup.
THEY MADE AN ATTEMPT TO CHANGE THE FIXTURE
After the two matches fell on the same day, the Johnstone Burgh management held talks with officials. The club proposed that one of the matches be played on a different date. It also offered to waive its share of ticket revenue in order to reduce the negative effects that a fixture change could cause.
The following statements were included in the statement made by Johnstone Burgh:
"We also proposed waiving our share of ticket revenue to help compensate for any negative effects that the change in the match schedule could cause."
THEY WILL PLAY TWO MATCHES WITH TWO SEPARATE SQUADS
Despite the club's efforts, no change was made to the match schedule. Following this, Johnstone Burgh announced that it would play the two cup matches on the same day with two separate squads made up of different groups of players. Thus, the Scottish team will compete in two official matches starting only half an hour apart on the same day.
