The body of former Rwandan army sergeant and YouTuber Robert Kabera, who had more than 144,000 subscribers, was found near Uganda's capital Kampala; police stated that his head has still not been found.
According to the BBC, Robert Kabera, a former Rwandan army sergeant and one of the harsh critics of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, has been found decapitated in neighbouring Uganda.
Kabera, 50, fled Rwanda after an accusation of sexual assault and denied the charge. He said he had been subjected to political pressure and applied for asylum in Uganda.
Uganda police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said in a statement on Monday that Kabera's head had still not been found. The body was found by local residents on the outskirts of the capital, Kampala, over the weekend.
According to his family, Kabera had gone to inspect a construction site about 45 kilometres from Kampala before he died.
Kabera, known as a singer and YouTuber, had more than 144,000 subscribers on his channel, which contained over 800 videos, most of them criticising Kagame and his government.
Kabera's wife, Jeanne d'Arc Rwigema Uwizeye, said in a written message sent to the BBC that she was concerned for her family's safety, adding: 'It is very frightening. I feel like I am going to lose my mind; my children and I have no security at all.'
The Rwandan government has made no public statement about the murder. The exiled opposition group the Rwandan National Congress (RNC) called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident and for those responsible to be brought before the courts. Many critics of Kagame have been killed in the past both in Rwanda and abroad; former intelligence chief Patrick Karegeya was found dead in a hotel room in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2014.
