The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, evaluated the statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the ceasefire proposal put forward by Ukraine and the United States.
"PUTIN IS AFRAID TO TELL TRUMP HE WANTS TO CONTINUE THE WAR"
Zelensky, who suggested that Putin is preparing to reject the ceasefire, claimed that the Russian leader is afraid to directly tell this thought to U.S. President Donald Trump. Zelensky stated, "What we heard today was quite predictable. The Russians need war. Putin stole the years of peace from us. We must put pressure on him. We are not putting forward any conditions for peace, but Russia continues. Putin is afraid to tell Trump that he wants to continue the war and kill Ukrainians."
"WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK TO FORCE RUSSIA INTO PEACE"
Zelensky noted that they will continue to work for peace with the United States and the European Union, stating, "We will continue to work with everyone who wants peace, with our American and European partners, to force Russia into peace."
WHAT DID PUTIN SAY?
In a statement regarding the ceasefire proposal put forward by Ukraine and the United States, Putin said, "We agree with the proposals regarding a ceasefire in Ukraine, but it needs to ensure long-term peace and provide solutions to the problems that caused the war." On the other hand, expressing his doubts about the ceasefire, Putin stated, "Ukraine could take advantage of the temporary ceasefire for mandatory mobilization and arms supply, and a decision needs to be made on how this will be controlled."
WHAT HAPPENED?
Ukraine announced that it was ready to accept the immediate implementation of a 30-day temporary ceasefire proposed by the U.S., which could be extended by mutual agreement of the parties. After more than 8 hours of talks with the Ukrainian delegation in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, "The ball is now in Russia's court," and expressed hope that "Russia will respond with a 'yes' as soon as possible." President Donald Trump also stated, "This is now up to Russia. I hope we can achieve a ceasefire." Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky explained that the U.S. proposed a complete temporary ceasefire by stopping missile, drone, and bomb attacks not only in the Black Sea but along the entire front line.
