US President Donald Trump's announcement that an energy ceasefire was reached between Russia and Ukraine led to questions in the Kyiv administration. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stating that he was not aware of the ceasefire, requested that they be informed when the agreement would enter into force.

Following U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement that an energy ceasefire had been declared between Russia and Ukraine, a striking statement came from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Stating that he was not aware of the ceasefire, Zelensky asked that if such an agreement had been made between Washington and Moscow, they should also be informed.

“LET US KNOW WHEN THE CEASEFIRE WILL BEGIN”

Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop attacks on energy infrastructure and that the ceasefire had entered into force immediately. However, in his statement, Zelensky said that the Kyiv government had not received any information regarding the start of the agreement.

In an interview with U.S.-based Axios, Zelensky said, “If President Trump decided this with Putin, please let us know when the ceasefire will begin. We are ready and will accept it.”

RECIPROCITY CONDITION FROM UKRAINE

In his previous statements, Zelensky had also stated that if Russia stopped attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, Ukraine was ready to stop its attacks on Russian oil refineries.

The Ukrainian leader emphasized that the energy ceasefire should not be unilateral but mutual, while demanding concrete guarantees regarding the implementation of the agreement.

CEASEFIRE DETAILS UNCLEAR

Despite Trump's announcement, there is no clarity on what date the possible ceasefire would begin, which facilities it would cover, and how the parties' compliance with the agreement would be monitored.

The Kyiv government's statement increased questions as to whether the ceasefire announced by Washington was a finalized and implemented agreement between the parties.
