In the corruption investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık, who was arrested and experienced health issues after entering prison, will undergo surgery tomorrow. Çalık's lawyer, Melih Koçhan, stated, "Lymphatic findings have been detected, and a biopsy will be taken from the mass on his neck."

Mehmet Murat Çalık, who was transferred from Marmara Prison in Silivri to Buca Prison in İzmir, is receiving treatment at İzmir Katip Çelebi University Atatürk Training and Research Hospital.

"CANCER-RELATED FINDINGS DETECTED"

Speaking about Çalık's health condition, his lawyer Melih Koçhan recalled that his client had previously suffered from cancer, stating, "Unfortunately, the pathology results that came yesterday showed poor values, and lymphomatic findings, meaning findings related to the cancer he had previously experienced, were detected.

In relation to that, a mass has formed in his neck, and he was already suspicious about it. Of course, is there a continuation of this elsewhere? Tomorrow they will take a piece from his neck. After that, a pathology will be done on it," he said.

HAS A HISTORY OF LEUKEMIA

Murat Çalık, who has a history of leukemia and lymphoma, was arrested and sent to Silivri Prison as part of the operation on March 19. It was revealed that Çalık, who was transferred from Silivri to Buca Prison on the 75th day of his detention, had lost 15 kilograms in prison.

NOT DRAFTED DUE TO HIS TREATMENT

Murat Çalık's wife, Zehra Çalık, stated that her husband underwent leukemia treatment for 9 months in 1999 and said: "After Mehmet received treatment, he wanted to go to the military. He did go. After serving for about a month, he was sent back with a report from GATA. In 2006, he was diagnosed with lymphoma. A mass was removed from his neck, and after a while, when the pathology results came back bad, he had surgery again. His routine check-ups and blood counts were done regularly."
