U.S. President Donald Trump argued that the Fed was late in lowering interest rates, stating that the country should be paying lower interest rates. Trump pointed out that Powell's justification for keeping rates high was unfounded, claiming that this situation has caused financial harm to the U.S.
U.S. President Donald Trump argued that the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) did not lower interest rates again without any justification, stating that the country should pay lower interest rates than any other country.
Trump shared his thoughts on the matter through his social media account. Criticizing Fed Chairman Jerome Powell for being "too late" to lower interest rates, Trump claimed that Powell refused to lower interest rates despite having absolutely no justification for keeping them so high.
"FED IS LATE IN LOWERING INTEREST RATES"
Trump, suggesting that Powell has harmed the U.S. and its national security, stated: "Since this moron has even admitted that inflation is no longer a problem or threat, interest rates should be significantly lower right now. Due to completely unnecessary and unwarranted interest expenses, it costs America hundreds of billions of dollars a year. Because of the enormous amount of money flowing into our country thanks to tariffs, we should be the country paying the lowest interest rates in the world."
"WITH A SIMPLE PEN MOVE, BILLIONS OF DOLLARS COULD ENTER THE U.S."
Pointing out that most of these countries are "low-interest money machines," Trump emphasized that despite tariffs bringing in billions of dollars, most of these countries continue to maintain trade surpluses with the U.S., albeit at a much lower level.
Trump stated, "In other words, I have been very nice, polite, and gentle towards countries around the world. With a simple pen move, billions of dollars could enter the U.S., and these countries would have to return to making money the old-fashioned way, not off the back of America. I hope they all understand what our great country has done for them, even if many do not appreciate it."
"TARIFFS MAKE THE U.S. STRONG AND POWERFUL"
Emphasizing that the Fed must immediately and significantly lower interest rates, Trump claimed that tariffs have made the U.S. "much stronger and more powerful than any nation."
Trump reiterated that, in proportion to this power, the U.S. should pay lower interest rates than any other country in the world.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Yesterday, the Fed kept the policy interest rate stable in the range of 3.5-3.75 percent, in line with expectations.
