The European Union designated the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell stated that those who act like terrorists should be treated as terrorists. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed this step.
The European Union (EU) announced that it has placed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on its terrorist list.
EU PLACES IRANIAN REVOLUTIONARY GUARD ON TERRORIST LIST
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas shared a message on the social media account of the US-based company X. Kallas stated that the repression would not go unpunished and reported that EU foreign ministers have defined the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization.
"THE REGIME IS PREPARING ITS OWN END"
Kallas emphasized that this is a decisive step, stating, "Any regime that kills thousands of its own people is preparing its own end."
"IF YOU ACT LIKE A TERRORIST, YOU SHOULD BE TREATED LIKE A TERRORIST"
In a statement made before the EU Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Brussels, Kallas said regarding the inclusion of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on the terrorist list, "This will place them in the same position as Al-Qaeda, Hamas, and ISIS. If you act like a terrorist, you should be treated like a terrorist."
EU COMMISSION PRESIDENT WELCOMES THE DECISION
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated, "I welcome the political agreement reached on new sanctions against the murderous Iranian regime."
Von der Leyen noted that the decision to define the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a "terrorist organization" should have been made much earlier, stating, "The label of 'terrorist' is extremely appropriate for a regime that suppresses its own people's protests with blood." Von der Leyen added that Europe stands with the Iranian people in their brave struggle for freedom.
