The defendant, who is on trial for killing his ex-wife and injuring his son in the Gölcük district of Kocaeli, was shocked by the DNA report from the Forensic Medicine Institution during the hearing where he maintained the claim, "He is not my biological son." After the report indicated that the biological father of Vedat Y. is the defendant, Mustafa Y. remained silent for a while and then responded in astonishment, "Is he my son?"

On July 27, 2024, Mustafa Y. arrived at the house of his ex-wife Sözen Tutci on Kazım Karabekir Street in Gölcük, Kocaeli, and opened fire with a gun. The woman, who was the target of the bullets, fell to the ground in a pool of blood, while Mustafa Y. also shot his son Vedat Y. (33) in the leg. Vedat Y. then shot his father in return.

SENT TO PRISON

A LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST FATHER AND SON

A lawsuit was filed against Mustafa Y. for 'premeditated murder against a woman and his divorced spouse', 'attempted premeditated murder against a descendant', 'violation of the inviolability of the home', and 'possession and carrying of firearms and ammunition without a license in violation of Law No. 6136'. A lawsuit was also filed against his son Vedat Y. for 'attempted premeditated murder against an ascendant' for his actions against his father.

"I BEGGED HIM NOT TO SHOOT ME IN THE KNEE"

The third session of the trial opened at the Kocaeli 4th High Criminal Court continued. The hearing was attended by the detained defendant Mustafa Y., the non-detained defendant Vedat Y., the complainants, and the lawyers of the parties. Describing the day of the incident, non-detained defendant Vedat Y. said, "On the day of the incident, I was having tea with my mother when the doorbell rang. I looked through the peephole and saw no one. When I opened the door, Mustafa Y. was standing in front of me. He didn't even talk to me, he just started shooting. I began to run towards the end of the corridor. Then I hid in a room. I realized I was injured. When I heard he was shooting at my mother, I came out. I saw blood coming from my mother as well. I begged him not to shoot me in the knee. My mother begged too."

"HE BIT MY HAND, 19 STITCHES WERE REQUIRED"

Vedat Y., who said he struggled with Mustafa Y. after his mother was shot, stated, "Mustafa Y. bit my hand. In fact, I received 19 stitches on my hand. He hit me with the butt of the gun. I felt like I was losing consciousness. My mother ran to the balcony. Mustafa Y.'s gun fell from his waist. He also had a gun in his hand. While we were struggling, Mustafa went to the balcony. I picked up the gun that fell to the ground. My mother was not in my line of sight. Mustafa was pointing the gun at my mother, and when he saw me, I shot in fear. I left the gun on the counter. At that moment, I couldn't see what was happening between my mother and Mustafa. When I went to the balcony, my mother was lying on the ground. Mustafa was sitting. He had no gun. He said, 'Kill me.' I said, 'I won't kill you,' and I called the teams. Later, I collapsed on the kitchen floor. The bullet marks found on the balcony door at the crime scene are the result of the recoil of the gun I held. I don't know how to use a gun. I have only been to the shooting range a few times," he explained.

"HE THINKS I'M NOT HIS SON, I DON'T KNOW WHY"

Vedat Y. expressed that they were constantly subjected to threats from Mustafa Y., saying, "He was threatening us, saying 'I will kill you, I will massacre you.' We had previously obtained a restraining order against him. A year before these incidents, my brother came to me crying. I saw that he sent +18 videos to my brother. He claimed that the person in those videos was our mother. He has accusations like 'You are selling your mother, you are giving her away.' He thinks I'm not his son, I don't know why," he stated.

"VEDAT KILLED SÖZEN"

Mustafa Y., who claimed he went home because he was threatened by Vedat Y., continued his defense as follows: "On the day of the incident, I went to my ex-wife's house to talk, I knocked on the door. I only had a gun at my waist. My ex-wife opened the door. I wanted to talk to her, but Vedat attacked me, even breaking my legs. We struggled, and to get away from him, I hit him on the head with the butt of the gun, then I shot at his legs. I did not fire except for 5 shots. I never shot at my ex-wife. During this time, Sözen took the gun from my hand and ran to the balcony, while Vedat went into a room. When I followed Sözen, he threw the gun from the balcony. Mustafa came with a gun and shot at both of us. There were 2 guns involved. I was saying that one of the guns belonged to me, but the other one is not mine. If it is determined to be mine, give me the heaviest penalty. Vedat killed Sözen."

HE CLAIMED HE WAS NOT HIS SON, REMAINED SILENT WHEN HE HEARD THE TRUTH

The result of the DNA test requested regarding the defendant Mustafa Y.'s claim since the first hearing that "Vedat is not my son" was read. Upon the report stating that Vedat Y. is the biological son of the defendant, Mustafa Y. remained silent for a while and then exclaimed in shock, "Is he my son?" as recorded in the minutes.

AN INVESTIGATION WILL BE CONDUCTED AT THE CRIME SCENE

It was learned that no fingerprints were found on the gun on the counter. The court board decided to obtain a report to determine the mental health of the defendant Mustafa Y., to conduct an investigation at the crime scene, and to continue his detention, and adjourned the hearing.
