MHP Deputy Chairman Sadir Durmaz expressed that Ekinci was removed from the list of mayors due to behaviors that do not align with the party's principles and policies.

The MHP-affiliated Sorgun Mayor Mustafa Erkut Ekinci has resigned from his party. Ekinci announced that he will continue as an independent.

In a statement made on his official social media account, Sorgun Mayor Erkut Ekinci said, "I have made an important decision so that the recent developments do not harm my party, its community, and the friends I have walked with for years. It is my greatest responsibility to carry out the mayoral duties entrusted to me by the people of Sorgun without any shadow, solely for the future of our city. For this reason, I am resigning from the party I belong to and will continue my duties as mayor independently in the upcoming process. I want all my fellow citizens to know that my only compass in the journey of serving Sorgun will be the needs of our people and the interests of our hometown. Just as I have done until now, I will continue to work transparently, fairly, and diligently. I thank all the citizens who trust me, support me, and stand by me with their prayers," he stated.
