An 88-year-old man, who is visually and hearing impaired, claimed that approximately 1 kilogram of gold he had hidden in a secret compartment was stolen, and he reported it to the police after his wife passed away in Seyhan, Adana. Abdulmuttalip Koç stated that during his wife's funeral process, the gold mysteriously disappeared, saying, "Both of my wife's two brothers had the house keys. No one else knew where my gold was kept."
Abdulmuttalip Koç, an 88-year-old man living in the Gazipaşa neighborhood of the Seyhan district in Adana, who is 80% visually and hearing impaired, experienced the second major shock of his life after the death of his wife.
WIFE DIED, 1 KILOGRAM OF GOLD IN THE HIDDEN COMPARTMENT DISAPPEARED
After retiring from Germany, Koç settled in Turkey in 1999. He was married to Güllü Koç. His wife passed away on December 2 of last year after a long illness. Koç took care of the hospital process, which lasted about 25 days, and then the funeral arrangements. After the funeral rush was over, on December 14, he checked the special and hidden compartment he had made inside the nightstand where he kept approximately 1 kilogram of gold. The elderly man reported the situation to the police after realizing that the gold was missing.
ONLY TWO PEOPLE KNEW ITS LOCATION
Koç stated that there was no forced entry at the door, that the house keys were with his wife's two siblings, and that only they knew the location of the gold. Following this, the police detained the relatives who were indicated as suspects. However, the suspects claimed in their statements that they did not take the gold and did not know its location. Due to insufficient evidence, the suspects were released.
"UNFORTUNATELY, THE THIEF WORE GLOVES"
Stating that the gold disappeared while he was dealing with the funeral, Abdulmuttalip Koç said, "There was about 1 kilogram of gold. After my wife died, I gathered the gold and put it back. A week passed. We went to the cemetery with the children. I returned home from there. It was December 14, 2025. When I looked at the gold, I noticed it was not there. My wife's two siblings also had the house keys. No one else knew where my gold was. The gold was in a hidden compartment. I asked them about the gold, but they denied it. That day, I reported the situation to the police. The police conducted an investigation, but unfortunately, the thief had worn gloves. No fingerprints were found."
