In the towns of Çayırbağ, Sülümenli, and Susuz in Afyonkarahisar, municipal councils have made recommendations to reduce wedding costs. In this context, weddings that used to last for 3 days have been shortened to 1 day. The gold gifts for the bride have been limited to 4 bracelets, 2 rings, and 1 pair of earrings. It has been prohibited to buy unnecessary shoes and clothes for the bride and groom.

Under the leadership of the Afyonkarahisar Governorship, a meeting was held with local administrators and village heads regarding weddings as part of the "2025 Family Year." Following the meeting and in response to citizens' requests, the councils of the municipalities of Çayırbağ, Sülümenli, and Susuz made recommendations, stating that weddings impose very heavy costs on families.

UNNECESSARY SHOES AND CLOTHES WILL NOT BE PURCHASED FOR THE GROOM AND BRIDE

In the decision made by the three municipalities, it was stated that "At weddings, the bride will receive 4 bracelets, 2 rings, and 1 earring as gifts. Unnecessary shoes and clothes will not be purchased for the groom and bride. Gifts will not be distributed under the name 'Dürü.' There will be no bathhouse organizations. The duration of the wedding will be reduced from 3 days to 1 day. Meals will be served to guests for one day. Alcoholic beverages will not be served to guests. There will be no gunfire into the air." The decisions were announced to the citizens by the municipalities.

"THERE WERE EVEN THOSE WHO TOOK LOANS FOR MILITARY CELEBRATIONS"

Çayırbağ Mayor Ender Kiraz stated that they received positive feedback from the local community after the new recommendations they made regarding weddings and military celebrations with the council members. Kiraz emphasized that families planning weddings were struggling significantly with the costs created by gifts and unnecessary customs, and he said:

"Some citizens do not consider each other in financial terms. There were even those who took loans for military celebrations. Difficulties arose in the purchase of gifts. Everyone knows this. We tried to minimize this as much as possible. All the decisions we made are aimed at minimizing costs. We believe that these recommendations will serve as an example for all municipalities."

"WE HAVE ELIMINATED THE HENNA NIGHT AND BATHHOUSE EVENT"

Sülümenli Mayor Hüseyin Varol stated that they have addressed an important issue in the town, saying, "Previously, weddings lasted 3 days, and the meal cost alone amounted to 500,000 TL, but we have reduced this to 100,000 TL. We have eliminated the henna night and bathhouse event. Almost 300 people used to go to a bathhouse. We eliminated these and brought the cost down to zero. Previously, weddings, or rather marriages, used to cost almost 4 million TL, but with the project we initiated, we have reduced the costs to 1 million 500 thousand TL," he said.
