New footage has emerged regarding the Grand Kartal Hotel fire in Bolu Kartalkaya, which claimed the lives of 78 people. The footage shows smoke engulfing the entire building within seconds, workers in the kitchen fleeing without using the fire extinguisher under the sink or warning anyone, customers attempting to save themselves by hanging bed sheets out of the windows, and moments when one person fell to the ground.
New footage has emerged regarding the Grand Kartal Hotel fire disaster in Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Resort, where 36 children and 78 people lost their lives and 133 were injured; the footage shows the exterior of the hotel, the kitchen, the staff corridor, and the reception area.
THEY ARE NOT USING THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER
The footage reveals the efforts of people to escape the building, the anxiety, and the moments of fleeing the hotel as flames and smoke rise. According to the footage, employees who notice the fire in the kitchen panic and flee without using the fire extinguisher located under the sink, as the flames grow and smoke fills the area.
EVACUATION USING A LADDER SUPPORTED BY A CANOPY
The footage from the camera at the front of the building shows people exiting through the hotel’s entrance door and evacuating customers using a ladder supported by a canopy. According to another camera recording showing the front of the hotel and the parking lot, hotel guests are trying to escape through the windows to the canopy and then down to the ground.
THEY ARE TRYING TO SAVE THEMSELVES BY HANGING SHEETS
The recordings show that some guests are trying to descend by holding onto a sheet hanging from a window on the 5th floor, during which one person is seen falling. The footage from the back of the building also shows flames and smoke rising from the show area, some people slipping and falling while running out of the hotel, and panicking while trying to call someone on their cell phones.
SMOKE FILLS THE ENTIRE BUILDING IN SECONDS
The footage shows hotel staff from the kitchen frantically telling the receptionist something, kitchen staff and the receptionist calling someone on the phone, exiting the building, and smoke covering the entrance area of the hotel. There are also images of a cabinet door in the floor where hotel staff are staying opening by itself due to the smoke, and the staff leaving the area as the smoke spreads into the corridor.
