Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, has praised U.S. President Donald Trump, whom he has always criticized harshly until now. Medvedev emphasized that Trump wants to be associated with peace, stating that this approach is also reflected in the discussions with the U.S.

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev commented on the role of U.S. President Donald Trump in the Russia-Ukraine War and the contacts between Washington and Moscow. Medvedev stated that Trump aims to be remembered in history as a leader who brings peace, adding that this approach is also reflected in the talks with the U.S.

"TRUMP IS AN EFFECTIVE LEADER"

Answering questions from reporters at his residence near Moscow, Medvedev described Trump as "an effective leader." He argued that the U.S. President is sincere in his quest for peace, expressing that Trump's style, which is sometimes characterized as "rude," is actually aimed at achieving results.

Stating that Trump has an emotional personality, Medvedev said, "The assessments that his actions lead to chaos are not entirely accurate. It is clear that there is a conscious and competent political line behind this."

"WE RESPECT THE CHOICE OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE"

Medvedev also addressed whether Trump is a positive or negative figure for Russia and the claims that he is "connected to Russia." Reminding that the American people elected Trump, Medvedev emphasized that the Moscow administration respects this democratic choice.

"CONTACTS WITH AMERICANS HAVE BECOME MORE PRODUCTIVE"

Medvedev stated that Trump has clearly expressed his desire to be remembered in history as a leader who brings peace, saying, "He really wants this and is making efforts in this direction. Therefore, contacts with Americans have become much more productive."

Pointing out that the key to understanding Trump is to consider his background in the business world, Medvedev referenced the common joke in Russia that "there are no former KGB agents," saying, "There is no such thing as a former businessman."

"WE STILL HAVEN'T FOUND THE NUCLEAR SUBMARINES"

Medvedev also commented on Trump's previous statement that U.S. nuclear submarines were brought closer to Russian shores. Stating that Russia has not detected any trace of these submarines, Medvedev said, "We still haven't found them."

U.S. President Trump claimed in August 2025 that Medvedev made "extremely provocative" statements regarding the potential risk of war between the parties, and in response, he announced that he had ordered two U.S. nuclear submarines to be deployed to areas close to Russia.
