Muhammed Sadık Erdoğan, a staff member of Altındağ Municipality, claimed that he was assaulted by Altındağ Mayor Veysel Tiryaki. Erdoğan stated, "I was subjected to assault for 20 minutes." After receiving a medical report, Erdoğan went to the Altındağ Şehit Köksal Kaşaltı Police Station to file a complaint.
ALLEGATION OF "ASSAULT" RELATED TO THE MAYOR OF ALTINDAĞ
Altındağ Municipality staff member Muhammed Sadık Erdoğan claimed that he was assaulted in the meeting room of Altındağ Municipality by Mayor Veysel Tiryaki, Deputy Mayor Cebrail Aslan, Municipal Council Vice President Mehmet Emin Ayaz, Altındağ Municipality's Zoning Director Süleyman Onacı, and two masked individuals accompanying them.
WHAT HAPPENED WHEN HE WANTED TO MEET WITH THE MAYOR
According to Erdoğan's statement, after working temporarily at another institution, he wanted to meet with Tiryaki to learn about his job description at the municipality after his term ended. Allegedly, during the meeting, Tiryaki accused Erdoğan of being behind an anonymous account that made negative posts about him on the X social media platform, insulted him, and punched and kicked him in the face.
After the incident, Erdoğan went to the Altındağ Şehit Köksal Kaşaltı Police Station to file a complaint against the individuals involved. In his statement to the police, Erdoğan noted: "I took the elevator to the 9th floor without anyone accompanying me. Upon request, I handed my mobile phone to the private secretary named Neslihan Keser. This is also where the mayor's office is located.
Following the guidance, when I entered a room decorated like a meeting room near the mayor's office, I found Altındağ Mayor Veysel Tiryaki, his assistant Cebrail Aslan, and Municipal Council Vice President Mehmet Emin Ayaz inside. They made me sit next to them. We were seated with one person between me and the Mayor. I politely and in accordance with public personnel etiquette asked the Mayor about the position I would continue in after the temporary assignment, and the Mayor stated that he saw me as the organizer and responsible person for the posts made by anonymous accounts against him on the X social media application, formerly known as Twitter.
"HE INSULTED ME AND PUNCHED ME IN THE EYE"
Subsequently, the other two individuals verbally joined in and accused me in this way. I again stated that there was no such situation within the limits of courtesy and respect. Veysel Tiryaki insulted me and then threw a hard punch aimed at my eye. I fell to the ground unsupported, as I did not expect such an action from someone in that position, despite it being completely unnecessary.
"THEY KICKED ME AND ASSAULTED ME FOR 20 MINUTES"
Afterwards, while I was on the ground, Veysel Tiryaki kicked me in the chin. As I fell, the chair I was sitting on broke. After being assaulted by Veysel Tiryaki for about 20 seconds, the other two individuals also participated in the assault in the same manner. I was subjected to assault for 20 minutes in this way. Later, in the room, there were also two large men with their faces covered by masks, whose identities I do not know, along with the Zoning Director of the Municipality, Süleyman Onacı. Therefore, six people assaulted me with kicks and punches.
It was reported that an investigation has been initiated regarding the incident. The medical report obtained by Erdoğan indicated that a fracture was detected around his left eye and that there was damage that could not be resolved with simple intervention.
THIS IS NOT THE MAYOR'S FIRST INCIDENT
Members of the Hizmet-İş Union, affiliated with the Hak-İş Confederation, had set up a protest tent in front of Altındağ Municipality due to a dispute that started after 46 workers were dismissed for refusing to resign from the union and the municipality management's refusal to accept the union's collective bargaining agreement. On April 11, 2025, Altındağ Mayor Veysel Tiryaki came to the protest tent and attempted to dismantle it, during which he punched the Union Branch President Recep Dere. Erdoğan also released a video detailing his experiences.
