Due to the incidents in the Africa Cup of Nations final, the Senegal Football Federation was fined $615,000, while the Morocco Football Federation was fined $315,000. Senegal National Team Head Coach Pape Bouna Thiaw received a ban from 5 official CAF matches and a fine of $100,000.
The African Football Confederation (CAF) imposed certain sanctions on Senegal and Morocco due to the events that occurred during the final of the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025).
PENALTIES FOR THE INCIDENT-FILLED FINAL
In a statement from the CAF Disciplinary Committee, it was announced that the Senegal Football Federation, Senegal National Team Head Coach Pape Bouna Thiaw, Senegalese players Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr, the Moroccan Football Federation, and Moroccan players Ismael Saibari and Achraf Hakimi were penalized due to disciplinary violations in the final.
The Senegal Football Federation was fined a total of 615,000 dollars due to the inappropriate behavior of fans, five players receiving yellow cards, and the team's inappropriate conduct, while the Moroccan Football Federation was fined a total of 315,000 dollars due to the inappropriate behavior of ball boys, the use of lasers by fans, national team players entering the VAR review area and obstructing the referee's work, and the inappropriate behavior of the technical staff.
BANNED FROM 5 OFFICIAL MATCHES
Regarding the objection to the penalty awarded to Morocco in the final match and the abandonment of the field, it was announced that Senegal National Team Head Coach Pape Bouna Thiaw was banned from 5 official CAF matches and fined 100,000 dollars for "unsportsmanlike conduct."
Senegalese players Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were also announced to have received a ban of 2 official CAF matches each due to their behavior towards the referee. The committee imposed a ban of 3 official CAF matches and a fine of 100,000 dollars on Moroccan national player Ismael Saibari for "unsportsmanlike conduct," while Achraf Hakimi received a ban of 2 official CAF matches, one of which is deferred for a year.
