The U.S.-based shipping company United Parcel Service announced that it plans to lay off 30,000 employees this year due to a reduction in volume for Amazon deliveries. The company also aims to reduce its total operational working hours by 25 million hours.
The US-based shipping company United Parcel Service (UPS) announced that it plans to reduce its workforce by 30,000 employees this year.
UPS Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Brian Dykes spoke at an investor conference held after the company released its balance sheet for the last quarter of the previous year.
WORKING HOURS WILL BE REDUCED
Dykes stated that they plan to reduce total operational working hours by approximately 25 million hours in connection with the volume reduction process in Amazon deliveries, and that they will eliminate 30,000 positions.
VOLUNTARY SEPARATION OFFER
Dykes mentioned that this year's workforce reduction will be carried out through employee separations and another voluntary separation offer to be provided for full-time drivers.
24 BUILDINGS WILL BE CLOSED
The company's balance sheet announcement also noted that 24 buildings have been identified to be closed in the first half of 2026, and that additional building closures are being evaluated for the second half of the year.
UPS had also announced in its balance sheet for the third quarter of 2025 that it laid off a total of 48,000 people last year, including approximately 34,000 in operational workforce.
