The co-chairs of the DEM Party, Tuncer Bakırhan and Tülay Hatimoğulları, visited the General Chairman of the DEVA Party, Ali Babacan. After the meeting, Babacan stated, "The current situation in Kobani is one that harms civilians; ensuring that daily life normalizes as soon as possible may be more important than anything else," while Hatimoğulları called out, "Let's open the Mürşitpınar Border Gate in Turkey and create a humanitarian aid corridor."
DEM Party Co-Chairs Tuncer Bakırhan and Tülay Hatimoğulları visited DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan at the party's headquarters.
The closed-door meeting lasted about 2 hours. After the meeting, Babacan and Hatimoğulları held a joint press conference. Babacan stated that they discussed developments in Syria during the meeting, saying, "We have unconditional calls to all parties from here; perhaps the most important call is to Mr. Shara and his government; trust is not built overnight, building trust takes time. The current strong state structure of the Damascus administration can only be achieved by gaining the trust of all segments within Syria. Because a new state structure can only stand on the legitimacy based on the power and support of the people," he said.
"THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY MUST BE HUMANITY" Ali Babacan expressed that he wanted to convey another important message to the government of the Republic of Turkey, stating, "We are going through an extremely sensitive period; the power of words is very important, but this power of words must be used without hurting anyone and without causing emotional ruptures in anyone. A language of victory that will be used to cover up the legal and justice-related issues within Turkey and the economic issues can lead to significant emotional ruptures among our own Kurdish citizens, as well as among Syrian and Iraqi Kurds. Turkey must support a process in which democracy will prevail in Syria. The time has come, and it has passed, to announce an election calendar in Syria. Ultimately, if a governance perspective that reflects the will of the people is not provided to Syria, there will be no trust-building. In this risky process, the number one priority must be humanity. The current situation in Kobani is harmful to civilians; ensuring that humanitarian aid flows normally and that daily life returns to normal as soon as possible is perhaps more important than anything else," he said.
HATİMOĞULLARI: LET'S ESTABLISH A HUMANITARIAN AID CORRIDOR Hatimoğulları from the DEM Party stated that Kurds are being massacred in Syria and that they will not remain silent about it, saying, "We have taken a stance against massacres as the DEM Party not only when our Kurdish brothers are massacred; but also when something happens to Turkmen there, when our Sunni brothers are massacred, and most recently when a large Alevi massacre occurred, and when our Druze brothers are massacred. Just as we value the consolidation of internal peace in Turkey, we also find it important to consolidate internal peace in Syria. This is a call to both the government and all opposition forces from here. Let's all put our hands together to build peace in Syria. Having a Syria that has established peace and solved its problems with its people on a democratic basis would be the most important outcome for Turkey in terms of security. Only then will Turkey truly be much safer. We believe that establishing peace in Turkey is important. There must be a fundamental change in the approach to the Kurdish issue to develop and consolidate internal peace, and there must be a change in language. Let's open the Mürşitpınar Border Gate in Turkey, establish a humanitarian aid corridor, and let’s stand in solidarity with our Kurdish brothers there on the basis of humanitarian aid," he expressed.
