Qatar's Ministry of Energy announced that 13 people were killed and 66 others were injured in an explosion last night at the Barzan natural gas facility in the Ras Laffan industrial area.

The death toll from the explosion that occurred last night in Qatar's Ras Laffan industrial zone has been revealed.

13 PEOPLE KILLED

According to a statement from Qatar's Ministry of Energy, 13 people were killed and 66 were injured in the explosion at the Barzan natural gas facility. The ministry reported that the facility's export capacity was not affected and that there is no environmental risk.

CAUSE OF ACCIDENT "TECHNICAL"

State oil and gas company QatarEnergy CEO and Qatar Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi stated that an investigation into the incident has been launched, but did not share details on which part of the facility the explosion occurred or the extent of the damage.

Officials stated that a "technical accident" occurred at the Barzan facility. Eyewitnesses claimed the explosion was heard from downtown Doha, the capital, located 70 kilometers away from Ras Laffan.
