In Diyarbakır, 16-year-old Merve A. shot and killed 23-year-old Muhammet Varoğlu with a gun. During her statement taken in the presence of a psychologist, Merve A. stated that the person she shot was her boyfriend and that he had secretly recorded private videos of her. She said, "He had inappropriate videos of me. He was threatening to give these videos to my family if I broke up with him."
The investigation into the murder of 23-year-old Muhammet Varoğlu, who was killed by 16-year-old Merve A. in the Bağlar District of Diyarbakır, has been completed. While the indictment was prepared by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident, Merve A., whose statement was taken in the presence of a psychologist, explained why she committed the murder.
"HE WAS THREATENING TO GIVE MY FAMILY THE VIDEOS"
Merve A. stated that Muhammet Varoğlu was her boyfriend, saying, "We met on social media two weeks ago. He had inappropriate videos of me. He was threatening to give these videos to my family if I broke up with him. I had used drugs. Because I was threatened, I wanted to meet him by taking my brother's gun from home. My intention in bringing the gun was not to kill him. It was to convince him to delete the videos of me. Then Muhammet sent me a message wanting to meet in the park. While we were talking in the park, we had an argument.
"HE RAISED HIS HAND..."
He said to me, 'Let's go to my friend's house, we can talk there.' He was walking in front, and I was walking behind him. At the house, I told him to delete my videos, and I pulled out the gun and pointed it at him. He raised his hand and said, 'Okay, stop, I will delete them.' At that moment, the gun went off. I had used drugs before meeting Muhammet. I was under the influence of drugs. I had loved him very much. After a week, I realized that his intentions towards me were different. He contacted me multiple times. He touched my private areas. He took inappropriate photos of me.
"HE MADE AN OFFER TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH ME"
I felt very bad. He made an offer to have a relationship with me. I did not accept. When I refused, he pressured me. He said that if I did not have a relationship with him, he would spread my videos to my brother and my surroundings. I felt terrible; I had loved him. He had given me pills. He took photos of me while I was sleeping. Then we had an argument. I asked him to delete the videos. He replied no. When I pulled out the gun, it went off in my hand. It was the first time I had held a gun. I was very scared; I left the door open so that someone would come in and see him. Then I surrendered. If I had known this would happen, I would not have taken the gun with me. I would have even accepted the publication of the videos; I am very regretful.
"SHE HAD NOT TAKEN MEDICATION FOR 20 DAYS"
According to a report in Sözcü, Merve's mother, S.B., stated in her testimony that her daughter had run away with someone she did not know two months before the incident and that she had started taking psychological pills six months ago, adding, "She had not taken medication for 20 days. On the day of the incident, she said she would meet a friend. She returned home and said she would go to the market after removing the SIM card from her phone and leaving it at home. When she returned home, I did not see if she had a gun on her."
HE WAS A QURAN RECITER
The parents of the murdered Muhammet, S.V. and G.V., stated that their son was a Quran reciter and taught classes at a Quran course, and they expressed that they were filing a complaint against Merve A., who killed their son.
