Authorities in England have stated that more than 175 practice bombs from World War II were found beneath a children's playground in the north of the country, and there are concerns that more may remain.
FUSES AND CONTENTS IN GOOD CONDITION
The bombs were discovered during a construction project for the renovation of Scotts Park playground in Wooler, a small town near the Scottish border in Northumberland county, and it was reported that the fuses and contents of the training bombs were found to be in good condition.
TRANSPORTED TO A SAFE STORAGE AREA
Following the incident, it was noted that numerous officials rushed to the children's park and dozens of bombs were safely transported to a storage area over the course of several days.
"THEY CAN STILL BE VERY DANGEROUS"
County council member Mark Mather emphasized that although the bombs are practice bombs, they "still carry a payload" and "should be removed by experts," stating, "These were found to have intact fuses and contents, and especially the explosive and smoke filling can still potentially be dangerous."
