"WE WILL QUIT, IT DOESN'T FEED US"
DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan visited a family producing vegetables in Serhat Neighborhood, Yenimahalle district of Ankara. Babacan, who toured the vegetable garden of the family reported to have been producing for about 30 years, asked the female producer about the condition of the crops. The producer responded to Babacan's question, "How are the crops this year?" by explaining their financial difficulties.
The female producer said, "We will quit, we will quit. It doesn't feed us. We won't do it again. We used to sell by the crate, we were better off then. We can't make ends meet."
BABACAN: YOU'RE LEAVING 30 YEARS OF FARMING, IS THAT SO?
Upon the producer's words, Babacan responded, "You're leaving 30 years of farming, is that so?" Babacan said, "We have a special preparation called urban agriculture. Not even a handful of soil in cities should remain idle; it should be supported. There is a cost to leaving it idle. The state must definitely provide adequate support to agriculture."
