IT CAN DYE LIQUID UP TO 100,000 TIMES ITS OWN WEIGHT YELLOW
Saffron, an important agricultural value in Safranbolu, is harvested after its flowers bloom in October and November. Saffron obtained from the flowers of the plant, which reaches a height of 15-30 centimeters, can dye liquid approximately 100,000 times its own weight yellow.
THE WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE SPICE
The fact that only 500 grams of saffron can be obtained from approximately 80,000 saffron flowers is cited among the most important reasons for the product's high value. Safranbolu saffron, which reached up to 600 thousand lira per kilogram last season, is described as "the world's most expensive spice" due to this feature.
Safranbolu District Governor Hayrettin Baskın and Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Yasin Önder attended the saffron planting program held in the field of producer İsmail Yılmaz in Yukarıçiftlik village. Speaking at the program, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Yasin Önder stated that saffron is among the specific products produced in the city and expressed that saffron has an important place in promoting the city as well as its botanical value.
PLANTING WILL BE CARRIED OUT ON OVER 20 DECARES
District Director of Agriculture and Forestry Erdal Kaya announced that 51 producers are engaged in saffron production in an area of 110 decares. Saffron producer İsmail Yılmaz also reported that this year they will carry out saffron planting on over 20 decares in different areas.
