75% Of Gazans Forcibly Displaced: UN Agency

22.05.2024 18:57

‘For thousands of Palestinian families there is nowhere left to go,’ UNRWA says.

A staggering 75% of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been forcibly displaced, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said on Wednesday.

UNRWA's statement came amid Israel's brutal offensive on the Palestinian enclave since Oct. 7, 2023 despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire in the territory.

"75% of the population of Gaza have faced forced displacement, many up to 4 or 5 times," the UN agency said in a statement.

"For thousands of Palestinian families there is nowhere left to go: military operations and bombardments pose a continuous threat, buildings have been turned to rubble."

"Nowhere is safe in Gaza."

More than 35,700 Palestinians have been killed, the vast majority of whom have been women and children, and nearly 80,000 others injured in relentless Israeli attacks since last October following an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas.

More than seven months into the Israeli war, vast swathes of Gaza lay in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine.

Israel is accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which has ordered it to ensure that its forces do not commit acts of genocide and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza. -
