81 suspects were detained in a diamond smuggling operation carried out in 4 provinces centered in Istanbul.
In an operation against diamond smuggling organized in 4 provinces centered in Istanbul, 81 suspects were detained. Within the scope of the investigation, diamonds with a market value of approximately 349 million lira were seized.
MARKET VALUE 349 MILLION LIRA
Teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Anti-Smuggling Crimes Branch, coordinated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, launched an investigation into suspects believed to have obtained illicit gains by engaging in organized diamond smuggling from abroad. Following the first operation carried out in August 2025 within the scope of the investigation, during the preparation phase of the second wave of operations, diamonds with a total market value of approximately 349 million lira were seized.
NUMEROUS DIAMONDS SEIZED
After examining the evidence and findings obtained, a detention decision was issued for 91 suspects. Teams conducted a simultaneous operation this morning centered in Istanbul, as well as in Antalya, Izmir, and Hatay. In the operation, 81 suspects were caught and detained, while numerous diamonds were seized during searches at addresses.
