While the investigation into the allegations of sexual abuse against a 13-year-old child by 33 individuals in the Amasra district of Bartın continues, the statements of stepfather Şakir Özkanca, speaking for the first time, were shocking. Blaming the child for everything, Özkanca said, "Neither his mother nor I could control him. He kept saying, 'It’s my private life, you can’t interfere.'"
The detention of 33 individuals in the investigation into sexual abuse allegations against 13-year-old G.Ö. in the Amasra district of Bartın has dominated Turkey's agenda. The statements made by stepfather Şakir Özkanca, speaking for the first time about the incident, have left people speechless.
33 PEOPLE ARRESTED
Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Bartın Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a total of 33 people, including 9 minors, have been arrested. Judicial control measures were imposed on 3 individuals. The victim's mother, T.Ö., was also among those arrested on charges of "violation of family obligations" and "concealment of evidence." It was learned that the investigation was initiated after an anonymous report on April 18, and statements were taken from approximately 180 people.
“SHE CAME TO ME WHEN SHE WAS ONE YEAR OLD”
Stepfather Şakir Özkanca, speaking for the first time, made the following statements:
“G.Ö. came to me when she was just one year old. I raised her; she was no different from my own child. About a year or two ago, she learned that I was her stepfather, but she showed no reaction to this.”
“WE COULDN'T COPE WITH HER”
Speaking to Milliyet, Özkanca shifted the blame onto the 13-year-old girl, saying, "Her behavior started to change in the last 1-1.5 years. Last January, she ran away from home. The gendarmerie found her and returned her to us. After that incident, we realized we couldn't cope with this situation anymore. She attended school until the eighth grade."
“SHE DIDN'T WANT TO STUDY”
The stepfather said, “After that, she didn't want to study. Neither her mother nor I could control her. She kept saying, 'This is my private life, you can't interfere.'”
“MY WIFE IS INNOCENT”
Özkanca, claiming they only recently learned about the events, also reacted to his wife's arrest:
“We also just learned that these events happened. Now we are being portrayed as the guilty ones. I don't know why my wife was arrested. My wife is innocent.”
MINISTRY INTERVENED IN THE CASE
The Ministry of Family and Social Services announced that the victimized child has been taken into state protection. In the ministry's statement, it was noted that a care measure decision was made considering the best interests of the child, and it was stated that they would intervene in the case and follow the process to ensure the defendants receive the harshest possible punishment.
