6,626 BRANCHES CLOSED IN 10 YEARS
According to data from consumer organization Which, banks and building societies in the UK have closed 6,626 branches since January 2015. This figure indicates that, on average, 53 branches have closed each month, and it suggests that approximately 67% of the branches operating at the beginning of 2015 have shut down.
THE BANK'S "DIGITAL" JUSTIFICATION
A spokesperson for the 261-year-old Lloyds Banking Group attributed the closure decisions to changes in customers' banking habits. The spokesperson stated that more than 21 million customers conduct their transactions through mobile applications, expressing that they are trying to offer digital convenience alongside physical services.
The bank also noted that customers can use Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland branches for their daily transactions, benefit from post offices and banking centers, and carry out cash deposit transactions at over 30,000 PayPoint locations.
