OCCURRED AT A DEPTH OF 10 KILOMETERS
A 7.3 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Chiapas state in southern Mexico. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) stated that the epicenter was near the city of Puerto Madero and occurred at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers.
The shallow earthquake caused strong shaking in the region.
TSUNAMI ALERT ISSUED
Following the earthquake, the US Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami threat warning for the region. Authorities urged citizens living in coastal areas to follow official announcements.

The violent tremor was not limited to Mexico. Witnesses reported that the earthquake shook buildings in neighboring Guatemala, while another witness told Reuters that the earthquake was also felt in El Salvador.
Authorities continue their assessments regarding potential damage and loss of life following the earthquake, but no official toll has been released so far.
