A group of tourists who came to Istanbul to watch a Fenerbahçe match was directed to a restaurant in Galata by the driver of the taxi they took. The bill for 6 oysters, 1.5 kilograms of sea bass, and various alcoholic beverages amounted to 59,000 Turkish Lira. It was noteworthy that the receipt, which included the cover charge, had the statement "Service is not included" at the bottom.
Four German tourists who came to Istanbul to watch the Fenerbahçe match went to a fish restaurant in Galata for dinner before the match. Allegedly, the tourists were faced with a shocking bill after ordering seafood at the restaurant they were directed to by a taxi driver.
A BILL OF 59 THOUSAND LIRA ARRIVED
According to the receipt dated October 24, 2025, issued by the restaurant; it included 6 oysters, 1.5 kilograms of sea bass, 1.5 kilograms of gilt-head bream, 2 kilograms of grouper, an appetizer platter, 6 portions of buttered jumbo shrimp, various alcoholic beverages, and table setting fees. The total amount was seen to be 59 thousand TL.
DETAILS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RECEIPT CAUGHT ATTENTION
The note at the bottom of the receipt stating "Service is not included" drew attention. After the incident, restaurant officials disputed the claims, while the photos shared by the tourists and the receipt issued by the restaurant ignited a major controversy.
Officials stated that such incidents that harm tourism need to be prevented and called for inspections.
