The public prosecutor, who took the floor, stated that he was reiterating his opinion.
RECEIVED GOOD BEHAVIOR DISCOUNT
After the statements of the defendant and the lawyer, the court announced its decision, considering the vehicle as a weapon, and sentenced Aşılıoğlu to 7 months and 15 days in prison for the crime of 'resisting to prevent the performance of duty.' The court panel, applying a good behavior discount, reduced the sentence to 6 months and 7 days. The judge converted the sentence into a fine of 18,700 lira and did not apply the postponement of the announcement of the verdict for the defendant.
HOW DID THE INCIDENT OCCUR?
During the rally organized by the CHP in front of the First Assembly for the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day and the subsequent march to Anıtkabir, a vehicle belonging to CHP Deputy Adnan Beker was stopped by police officers on Talatpaşa Boulevard due to the closure of Cumhuriyet Avenue to traffic. Deputy Beker and his driver İrfan Aşılıoğlu got out of the vehicle, and while Beker was talking to the police, İrfan Aşılıoğlu, who returned to the driver's seat, did not stop the vehicle despite the police officer's signal to "stop." Following the complaint of the police officer, an investigation was initiated against Aşılıoğlu by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Aşılıoğlu was detained on April 24 for the crime of 'resisting to prevent the performance of duty' as part of the investigation. After his procedures at the police station, Aşılıoğlu was brought to court, where he was released under judicial control. In the indictment prepared by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident, a prison sentence of up to 3 years was requested for Aşılıoğlu for the crime of 'resisting to prevent the performance of duty.'
