In Kocaeli, private public bus driver Mustafa Yilmaz was attacked with punches by a stranger; the attacker's threats and insults were captured on the vehicle's camera. The driver filed a complaint against the attacker, whom he believes is connected to a female passenger.
PUNCH ATTACK ON BUS DRIVER
The incident occurred in the Seymen neighborhood of the Basiskele district. According to reports, Mustafa Yilmaz, a private public bus driver, had picked up a female passenger from the Halkevi stop and stopped in the Seymen neighborhood to let her off, when a man approached the bus and attacked him. The attack, during which Yilmaz was injured on his face, was recorded second by second on the vehicle's interior camera.
Yilmaz, who obtained a medical report of the beating from the hospital, stated that he did not previously know the attacker and believed the incident happened because of the girl. Expressing his assessment that the attacker and the girl knew each other, Yilmaz stated that he filed complaints against both individuals and noted that all details of the incident are included in the vehicle camera recordings.
Describing what happened, Mustafa Yilmaz said, "Yesterday, I stopped at the Halkevi stop. My passengers got off, and no one was left on the bus. At that moment, a girl I estimated to be 15-16 years old came. She said, 'Brother, can I get on the bus?' I looked at my watch. I had a departure from Sekapark at 14:40. The time was around 14:37. Since I was going to go to Sekapark and return without stopping, I didn't send the citizen away. I said, 'Okay, come on.' I pressed the get-on-get-off button until Seymen, and the girl swiped her card. I entered Sekapark. The vehicle is not seen by the system until I enter the area where the Transportation Department is located. If I pass from outside, the vehicle is not visible, and my trip is not counted. That's why I have to enter that area. I entered and continued my regular trip. I picked up passengers from stops. I came to the Seymen West exit and stopped at the roundabout. There were passengers who needed to get off. As I approached the stop, I flashed my headlights so that if there was a waiting passenger, they would be ready. When I arrived at Seymen, the bell rang, and I opened the doors to let passengers off."
"HE SAID 'I WILL KILL YOU' AND CURSED"
Saying that the girl got off at the stop, Yilmaz continued, "Right at that moment, shouting came from outside. The male individual headed towards the vehicle. I thought, 'This person argued with someone and got on my vehicle to escape.' I have no acquaintance or conversation with that person. He suddenly came next to me. I couldn't understand what was happening; I was in shock. Saying 'I will kill you,' he cursed heavily at my mother, my wife, and me. I tried to take off my seatbelt to protect myself. He could have had a knife; he could have injured me at the steering wheel, or even killed me. We have no safety. He scratched my face. At that moment, a passenger sitting next to me intervened and pushed the attacker out the door. I went straight to the District Police Department in Seymen. The police took me to the hospital. I underwent a doctor's examination, got my report, and then gave my statement. I am filing a complaint against both this person and the girl with him. I don't know what happened or what was said between them. I have no fault at all. The entire incident is on the camera recordings. I don't know why he did this. I don't know if the attacker has been taken into custody. I am waiting for the news that this person has been caught as soon as possible."
