The cold air wave coming to Turkey via Russia will bring the season's first snowfall to some provinces. Toward the weekend, snow is expected in the high parts of Rize and around Artvin, Gümüşhane, Erzurum, and Kars, while warnings were issued that heavy precipitation could disrupt transportation. Starting Wednesday, temperatures will drop by 8 degrees at once. While heavy rain continues in Istanbul, the temperature will fall to 12 degrees on Thursday and to 11 degrees in Ankara.
Türkiye is preparing to come under the influence of a cold air wave coming from Russia. Due to the cold weather expected to be effective across most of the country starting Wednesday, temperatures will drop by 8 degrees at once. With temperatures falling to 12 degrees in Istanbul and 11 degrees in Ankara, snowfall will also be seen in some provinces.
HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED ACROSS THE COUNTRY TODAY
According to the latest assessments by the General Directorate of Meteorology, the weather is expected to be partly and very cloudy across the country today. Intermittent showers and, in places, thunderstorms are forecast in Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean (except Adana and Mersin), northern Central Anatolia, Western Black Sea, inner parts of Central Black Sea, southern and western Eastern Anatolia, Southeastern Anatolia (except Mardin), and around Samsun, Gümüşhane, Kars, Ağrı and Iğdır.
While precipitation is expected to be locally strong in Coastal Aegean and around Edirne, Kırklareli and Antalya, caution and precautions are requested against possible adverse conditions in these areas.
RAIN TO INTENSIFY AGAIN IN ISTANBUL
The heavy rain that caused flooding in Istanbul yesterday evening lost its effect toward morning. Due to the rain, which quickly increased in intensity, there was congestion on avenues and streets, while citizens outside tried to protect themselves with umbrellas. Those caught unprepared by the rain took shelter in nearby indoor spaces.
Rain in the city is expected to intensify again this afternoon. With precipitation forecast to continue as showers tomorrow as well, air temperatures will gradually decrease.
COLD AIR IS COMING FROM RUSSIA
The cold air wave coming from Russia will affect most of Türkiye starting Wednesday. NTV Meteorology Editor Dilek Çalışkan said that the rainy weather wave will bring winter cold with it.
Recalling that at the beginning of the week temperatures in many cities were in the 18-20 degree range, Çalışkan said, "With this cold weather, especially in the northern line; that is, in Istanbul, the Black Sea region and inland areas, the air temperature will drop by 8 degrees at once. On Thursday, the air temperature in Istanbul will fall to 12 degrees. In Ankara, the air temperature will also fall to 11 degrees."
SNOWFALL EXPECTED IN SOME CITIES
The cold air wave is expected to bring the season's first snowfall in some cities. Toward the weekend, snowfall is forecast in the high parts of Rize and around Artvin, Gümüşhane, Erzurum and Kars.
Warning citizens who plan to go especially to high areas, Çalışkan said, "If there are those thinking of going up to the plateaus, heavy snowfall in these areas between Thursday and Saturday may disrupt traffic."
THE SUN WILL SHOW ITS FACE IN THE AEGEAN AND MEDITERRANEAN
In the Aegean and Mediterranean regions, precipitation is expected to lose its effect. Dilek Çalışkan stated that starting Thursday, sunny weather will again be effective in these regions.
However, although the precipitation ends, air temperatures in the Aegean and Mediterranean will also be lower than last week.
