With the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announcing the October inflation data, a new picture has emerged in the January 2027 salary increase calculations for millions of civil servants and retirees. While monthly inflation was 2.58 percent and annual inflation was 29.77 percent, the four-month inflation increase for the second half of the year reached 8.04 percent. Thus, while the four-month rate in the salary increase for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees has become clear, two data points remain for the final increase.
With the October data announced by TÜİK, the four-month results of the six-month period to be used in calculating the salary raises to be implemented in January 2027 have become clear. Monthly inflation, which was 1.78 percent in July, 1.84 percent in August, and 1.84 percent in September, rose to 2.58 percent in October.
With these data, the cumulative inflation increase in the July-October period was calculated as approximately 8.04 percent. Thus, the four-month rate for the January raise for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees has emerged.
THE FIRST PICTURE FOR RETIREES' RAISE RATE HAS BECOME CLEAR
The salaries of SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees are increased every January and July according to the previous six-month inflation rate. Therefore, with the announcement of the October data, the four-month portion of the increase that will be reflected in retirees' salaries has also become clear.
As the four-month inflation increase reached 8.04 percent, this rate has already become certain for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees. However, the final raise to be applied in January 2027 will become clear after the inflation data for November and December are announced.
CALCULATION IS DIFFERENT FOR CIVIL SERVANTS AND RETIRED CIVIL SERVANTS
Salary increases for civil servants and retired civil servants are calculated differently from those for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees. In the raises for public employees and retired civil servants, in addition to the increase rate set by the collective agreement, the inflation difference is also taken into account if it occurs.
In line with the decision of the Public Servants Arbitration Board, a collective agreement increase of 5 percent for the first six months of 2027 and 4 percent for the second six months is envisaged. The total raise that civil servants and retired civil servants will receive in January will become clear with the calculation of the inflation difference for the relevant period.
HOW MUCH WERE SALARIES RAISED IN JULY?
In July 2026, the salaries of SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees were raised by 17.76 percent. For civil servants and retired civil servants, the collective agreement increase and the inflation difference were applied together.
In this context, the salaries of retired civil servants rose by 13.52 percent with the combined effect of a 7 percent collective agreement increase and a 6.09 percent inflation difference.
TWO DATA POINTS REMAIN FOR THE JANUARY RAISE
With the announcement of October inflation, attention turned to November and December. The CPI data for the next two months will determine the six-month salary increase for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees and the inflation difference for civil servants and retired civil servants.
Thus, the raise rate that millions of people will receive in January 2027 will become final after the last two inflation data of the year.
