The decline in advertising revenues in the television industry to the lowest October level of the last 30 years led channels to make new decisions. As changes are made to the broadcast schedules of series whose episode costs have risen to as much as 40 million TL, it has been learned that new episodes will not be aired on match days and special days. Due to the Galatasaray-Stuttgart match to be played this evening, the new episodes of three series will not be broadcast.
Rising production costs and declining advertising revenues in the television world have begun to change the broadcast schedules of TV series. After advertising revenues remained at their lowest level in the last 30 years in October, television channels and producers decided to implement a new practice. Accordingly, during periods when advertising revenues are insufficient, new episodes of TV series will not be aired, especially on evenings with important football matches and special days.
LOWEST ADVERTISING REVENUE IN 30 YEARS IN OCTOBER
According to a report by Birsen Altuntaş, the television industry has faced a serious decline in advertising revenues. October, when advertising investments are normally concentrated, was recorded this year as the October in which the lowest advertising revenue of the last 30 years was obtained.
The fact that only 60 percent of the advertising slots allocated as 12 minutes per hour on television channels were filled negatively affected broadcasters' revenues. The fact that a significant portion of advertising time remained empty made it economically difficult to broadcast high-cost TV series.
COST OF ONE TV SERIES REACHED 40 MILLION TL
Another reason for the economic difficulties in the TV series industry was rising production costs. It was stated that the cost per episode of a TV series reached the 35-40 million TL range, while revenues from international sales could not maintain their previous levels.
Following these developments, television channels and producers began to follow a joint approach to avoid broadcasting new episodes on days when advertising revenues remain low. Last week, broadcasts of some TV series were paused due to the October 29 Republic Day, and this week European cup matches also affected the broadcast schedule.
THREE TV SERIES ABSENT DUE TO GALATASARAY-STUTTGART MATCH
The Galatasaray-Stuttgart match to be played this evening also changed television channels' broadcast schedules. It was reported that due to the match that will air at the broadcast time of the TV series Mehmed: Sultan of Conquests on TRT, private channels also decided not to broadcast new episodes of their TV series.
Unless there is a last-minute change, the new episodes of Dignity on Kanal D, Half Mother on NOW, and Salty Coffee on Star TV will not meet viewers this evening.
BREAK FOR NEW EPISODES ON MATCH AND SPECIAL DAYS
It is stated that if the decline in advertising revenues continues, similar broadcast changes may also occur in the coming weeks. Channels are expected to avoid broadcasting high-cost new episodes on match and special days when ratings may be affected.
