In Egypt, 39-year-old television presenter and producer Sarah Khalifa has been sentenced to death for drug manufacturing and trafficking crimes. In the case in which 11 other defendants were also given the death penalty along with Khalifa, it was stated that more than 750 kilograms of drugs and raw materials were seized in the operations. The verdict against Khalifa, who denies the charges, has not yet been finalized.
A verdict has been reached in the drug trial of television presenter Sarah Khalifa, a well-known figure to the public in Egypt. The Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Khalifa and 11 other defendants to death.
DEATH SENTENCE FOR 12 DEFENDANTS
In the trial where a total of 28 defendants were prosecuted, 12 people received the death penalty, 9 people were sentenced to life imprisonment, and 7 defendants were acquitted.
It was stated that the defendants acted in an organized manner to produce and traffic synthetic drugs by obtaining materials used in drug manufacturing.
OVER 750 KILOGRAMS OF SUBSTANCES SEIZED
In operations conducted within the scope of the investigation, more than 750 kilograms of drugs and raw materials used in drug production were seized. It was reported that two apartments had also been converted into laboratories used for drug production.
In the case file, the defendants were also charged with possession of unlicensed weapons and ammunition, in addition to drug production and trafficking.
SHE DENIED THE CHARGES
Sarah Khalifa denied the charges against her during the trial process. However, based on the evidence in the file, the court sentenced the 39-year-old presenter to death.
