FIRST EXECUTION IN OKLAHOMA: CLEMENCY REQUEST DENIED
The first execution of the day took place in the state of Oklahoma. Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez, 70, found guilty of killing his wife in 2003, was executed by lethal injection. The clemency requests made by Cuesta-Rodriguez's lawyers, citing mental health issues, were denied until the very last moment.
EXECUTION OF SICK INMATE IN TENNESSEE
About an hour after the procedure in Oklahoma, 66-year-old Darrell Hines was executed in the state of Tennessee. Hines, sentenced to death in 1985 for killing a hotel worker, had his lawyers request a stay of execution, stating that their client was severely ill and disabled; however, the court did not accept this request.
FINAL EXECUTION CARRIED OUT IN ALABAMA
The last execution news of the day came from the state of Alabama. The death sentence was carried out on 42-year-old Jeremy Williams, who in 2021 raped and killed a 5-year-old girl and waived all his appeal rights.

In a country where three people were last executed on the same day on January 7, 2010, the upward trend in execution numbers is striking. The number of executions, which was 25 the previous year, rose to a total of 47 last year, with 19 of those occurring solely in the state of Florida.
