A man who could not persuade his wife, who wanted a divorce, took his two children, aged 4 and 6, hostage on the balcony of his home in the Palandöken district of Erzurum. The suspect, neutralized in a police operation, was taken into custody, while the children, who experienced moments of fear, were handed over to their mother.
HE CLOSED THE BALCONY DOOR WITH A BED BASE
The incident occurred on the top floor of a 5-story building on Adnan Menderes Street. Burhan K. (39), who wanted to reconcile with his wife A.K. (27), who had moved to her family's home, took his children M.K. (6) and M.K. (4) and went out to the balcony. The man, who blocked the passage by placing a bed base behind the balcony door, caused panic in the area by shouting. Upon the report, police, fire department, and medical teams were dispatched to the region.
"LEAVE THE CHILDREN, TAKE ME HOSTAGE"
At the scene, where the fire department deployed an air cushion, police teams tried to persuade the man. When Burhan K. requested his wife's arrival, A.K., brought to the address, pleaded for a long time to convince her husband behind the door. The desperate mother begged her husband, who slightly opened the door, saying, "Leave the children, take me hostage."
IMMEDIATE INTERVENTION BY POLICE
Taking advantage of a momentary lapse by Burhan K. while the woman said these words, police teams rushed in and neutralized the man. While the husband was taken into custody and brought to the police station, the two small children held hostage were safely handed over to their mother.
